Welcome to the Friends Blog
Welcome to Friends of White Bear Area Environment blog, an interactive newsource for energetic citizens locally and globally, and headquartered in communities abundant in resources north of St. Paul, MN.
This blog is provided by citizens who are determined to improve environmental protection locally and globally, provide public education, improving government responsiveness on all levels, and having a little fun while we’re at it.
If you want to submit newsworthy information for possible posting on the site, please submit a post and we’ll review it as soon as we can. The Friends formed out of a love for our area’s natural beauty, surprisingly diverse and abundant wildlife and the fact it is being threatened by many things. Postings on this site will be subject to journalistic standards, but in the true spirit of American freedom, we will also include friendly news exchange just for the fun of it and to provide you an outlet for some of the absurd things that really go on around here in suburbia.
Most of all, the blog was formed to GET YOU TO DO SOMETHING TO PROTECT your local environment. We intend to help you do that by identifying the issues and how you can help. One current issue is making the shift from relying on storm sewers, the dinosaur of water management technology to ’green’ technology to retain and reuse water and protect our lakes, ground water and plant/wildlife resources. Links to website and video sources will be added as new data becomes available.
The Feature of the season is Chicago’s Green Alley Program welcomed by Mayor Richard M. Daley and Thomas Byrne, Commissioner of Chicago Department of Transportation.
